Natural Sleep Remedies for Insomnia or Sleeplessness

The hormone Melatonin is secreted by an organ that has the shape of a pea. This gland is known as the pineal gland. It is our 24 hour internal time-management system that regulates our sleep and wake-up cycle. Melatonin is active in the darkness and its effect reduces during the day time when there is light. In case you are unable to sleep on a regular basis, you have to seek the natural sleep remedies so that you can sleep peacefully. Firstly you have to maintain a daily routine where your sleeping time is specific. This means that you have to go to sleep in a particular time everyday without making any changes in your routine.

Chamomile tea is one of the natural sleep remedies that are being used from a very long time. It is used in different ways to induce sleep. You can drink it as hot/cold tea or else sleep with a tea bag under your pillow. A flavonoid named chrysin is found in chamomile as well as in passion flower that is very effective in inducing sleep. You can use passion flower oil or keep dried passion flower similarly under your pillow to get quality sleep.

Lavender, which is a flowering herb, is well known as it is used in many forms - oil, soap, scent, powder and many other forms. It can be used in the form of tea too. The oil can be applied to induce sleep. One of the natural sleep remedies is drinking lavender and mint tea to feel relaxed. You can make a sachet of dried lavender flowers, stems and leaves, then keep it under your pillow or smell it to feel relaxed and go to sleep. The wild Valerian root helps you to sleep if you use it on a regular basis. It cures anxiety too.

Lemon balm is one of the natural sleep remedies that is a sedative and can be made into tea. Make tea by using 2 teaspoons per cup of boiling water and let it steep for 10 minutes, then drink it to get good results. California poppy, which is the mild type of morphine, but is not narcotic morphine, is very effective as it is not addictive. Honey is effective in inducing sleep too. You can have it with herbal tea or just take it with warm milk everyday before you go to bed. You may also take vitamin and mineral supplements or herbal supplements such as Aaram capsules to get good sleep.
