Home Remedies for Dry Eyes, Natural Remedies

Dry eyes are the result of reduced tear production. There is thin and dry film of tear that causes a sandy feeling in the eyes and with it there is itching, burning and stinging sensation in the eyes. It usually occurs due to lack of humidity in the room for air conditioners or room heaters, computer screens, air pollution, too much exposure to sunlight, insufficient light and due to growing age. When there is too much of dryness in the eyes the tear glands become activated and produce tears, this too is the symptom of dry eyes. Along with medical eye drops, there are some natural home remedies for dry eyes.

One of the primary home remedies for dry eyes is blinking you eyes quite often. It has been found that while working on the computer, we blink only 7 times whereas we blink 10 times while reading and 22 times when we relax. So the first golden rule is to increase the amount of blinking while working on the computer. You have to improve the humidity level of your room in order to get relief from dry eyes. You can use a cool mist humidifier to get relief from dry eyes.

You can either place a wash towel on your eyes or place a cold wet tissue on your eyes to get relief from dry eyes. One of the soothing home remedies for dry eyes is placing thin slices of cucumber on your eyes. Cucumber is very cooling so it relaxes your eyes and helps in reducing the dryness. You can place tea bags on your eyes. Tea is enriched with antioxidants that helps in reducing wrinkles and hydrates your eyes at the same time. It is preferable to use black tea. You can also use liquid tears or artificial tears once or twice a day.

You can avoid exposure to sun, wind, dust and pollution by using a sunglass whenever you go out. One of the effective natural home remedies for dry eyes is placing grated potatoes on your eyes. You can get good results if you keep the potato overnight. It helps in hydrating the eyes as well as helps in reducing dark circles too. You can also try reducing dryness by using baby shampoo. All you have to do is massage your eyelids with baby shampoo and then wash your eyes. The massage helps in stimulating the tear glands, liberating heat that helps in oil secretion and the shampoo helps in removing bacteria too. In this manner it prevents further dryness.

Changing your lifestyle is very important as you need to give rest to your eyes. Encourage regular blinking. Eat foods that are rich in vitamin A or use its supplements. Bet carotene is enriched with vitamin A, eating carrots and drinking blue berry juice are two of the useful natural home remedies for dry eyes as they are rich in vitamin A. The overall health of your eyes can be improved by taking Lutein. Include Omega 3 fatty acids in your diet. And lastly, avoid smoking.
