Home Remedies for Canker Sores, Natural Remedies

Mouth ulcers that take place in the mucous membrane of your mouth are known as canker sores. The mouth, comprising of the lips, tongue, cheek and upper throat are affected by these ulcers. Red lesions with a white coating appear in the mouth. Its diameter is usually one and a half inches in diameter and has a red rim. They are not contagious and should not be confused with cold sores or fever blisters that appear on the outside of your mouth. For treatment, one can use both medicines a home remedies for canker sores.

Dilute 1 part of sterile water with 1 part of hydrogen peroxide and with the help of a clean cotton swab, apply it on the sores. At first this will hurt for a few seconds and will then relive you with a soothing effect. But do not swallow the solution. One of the useful home remedies for canker sores is to apply honey on the sores 2-3 times a day with the help of a clean cotton swab. You can mix salt and rock salt in equal portions and apply directly on the sores and feel relieved.

Baking soda is among the most effective home remedies for canker sores. You can use it directly, or make a paste out of it by adding some water or else make a mouthwash out of it by mixing it with a cup of water. Rinsing your mouth with just salt and warm water is very effective. You can make a mouth wash by mixing 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of salt in a cup of water. Applying milk of magnesia with the help of a cotton swab 2-3 times a day is very useful.

Without touching the yellow portion of the aloe vera, cut it longitudinally and take out the sap. Apply the sap on the sores several times in a day to get relief from the pain and in the process treat the sores too. The chamomile herb is one of the useful home remedies for canker sores. You can mix milk of magnesia with diphenhydramine or Benadryl and rinse your mouth 2-3 with it. Chew raw onions as it helps in curing the problem. You can apply papaya leaves, tea tree oil and tomato to get good results.

Avoid tooth pastes that are made of Sodium lauryl sulphate as it irritates the canker sores. As the mouth becomes very sensitive, avoid salty foods, sweets, spicy foods or foods that are too hot. The most effective home remedies for canker sores are to maintain a proper diet by including whole grain and leafy vegetables in your diet. The exact cause behind canker sores is unknown, but it may occur for various reasons. It may occur due to tension in the oral tissues due to food allergies and bacterial infections. You may have it due to stress, hormonal changes and nutritional deficiencies. Deficiency in vitamin B 12, folic acid and iron can cause these ulcers.
